First, let me begin by saying that my friends call me ‘Bobby-james.’ It’s a name I acquired in middle school and it stuck, thus becoming a signature for my work. My journey with film began as a child when I dreamed of doing practically everything I’d ever seen in a movie, the two main aspirations were archaeology (thank you Jurassic Park) and zoology (thanks to The Lion King). In high school, I discovered a passion for acting when I was cast as ‘The Cowardly Lion’ for The Wizard of Oz (one of my favorite movies). It was then I decided I wanted to act, be an archaeologist, a zoologist and a writer – and that’s just half of “what I want to be when I grow up.” I think my career path changed daily – the solution? Acting school. I studied at St. Louis Community College: Meramec under the tutelage of Michelle Rebollo for three years. Through a co-taught Acting for the Camera course I met Dr. Diane Carson in the process. Dr. Carson guided me along a yellow brick road (no, not actually) to film school at Webster University and within a year and a half, I completed the Film Studies undergraduate degree with departmental honors. In addition to being a co-founder and critic for As Seen By I am the current manager for The Cinema Club: St. Louis, a sneak peek film society that screens independent and foreign films prior to their national releases. With some hard work and a little bit of luck, I’m hoping that I will one day be acting in, writing and directing film and television. Until then I’ll keep dishin’ out the “reel scoop.”
Ciao, ciao for now

Aside from that, I’ve always had a love for film, great cinematography, and innovative storytelling. And it wasn’t until I took a ‘History of Film’ class that I really began to appreciate the art. Knowing that I most likely would neverhave a career in directing films, I thought ‘what better way than to revie

w the good, the bad, and the controversial?’ Thus, As Seen By became a side project that I just couldn’t give up.

Witnessing Pulp Fiction at the ripe age of 10 has since left me hypercritical of films and a little scarred for life. If I were forced to audition for a play, I’d perform the most ridiculous monologue from Easy Rider. Aside from As Seen By, I write about music for KDHX. I’m six foot, 170 pounds and super-educated.
